Hi y’all! I hope everyone is doing well in these first few weeks of fall. I love this season, the crisp air, the bright colors, the cozy nights and warm teas! However, on the other end, the days are getting colder and shorter. Being a young woman in the big city, I like having more hours of daylight as that is what makes me feel safest walking around by myself. However, with the colder season, the daylight is limited; on top of that, the streets are way emptier this year due to coronavirus restrictions.
What does this all mean? Frankly, I get worried walking around by myself after dark. But hear me out, because I found a couple of solutions that help me feel safer and better prepared! The SABRE team graciously sent some products my way. Let me show you a couple of my favorites!
The Products
SABRE sent me four different products: their Campus Safety Pepper Gel , their Practice Spray to familiarize myself with using sprays, their Runner Pepper Gel and their Dorm/Apartment Alarm Kit which includes a doorstep alarm, a door or window alarm, and a personal alarm.
While I know that all of these products will help me feel safer, I have found two of these particularly helpful: here are my two favorites!
Runner Pepper Gel
Although I am not a runner myself, I really like this Runner Pepper Gel. It’s because of the hand strap, which makes it convenient, practical, easy and quick to use. In case of threat, just point it and spray using your thumb. Just carrying it around will make you feel better prepared for anything that may come your way.
You can walk around at night with the pepper gel strapped to your hand for easy access. When you’re not worried, you can simply store it in your purse thanks to its small size.
Personal Alarm
My second favorite product? The Personal Alarm found in the Dorm/Apartment Alarm Kit. This alarm has a keychain and an LED light, so it’s super convenient, versatile and quick to access. It is perfect to get the attention of people nearby, as it releases a loud noise when clicked. Super quick and easy to use when feeling threatened!
These are my favorite picks! Do you have tips and tricks for feeling safer in the city? Let me know! Otherwise, just be aware of your surroundings, be safe and be smart!
